Yaoshang is one of the most vibrant and widely celebrated festivals in Imphal and across Manipur, marking the arrival of spring and coinciding with the festival of Holi. Celebrated over five days, it uniquely blends traditional rituals with modern cultural activities. The festival begins with the burning of a ceremonial hut called Yaoshang Mei Thaba, symbolizing the start of festivities. Evenings come alive with the famous Thabal Chongba, a traditional Manipuri moonlight dance where people gather in circles to sing and dance joyfully. Sports events, cultural programs, and community fundraising activities are also organized, making Yaoshang a lively celebration of unity, culture, and happiness.
